Notes |
- (Notes provided by Ethel Mary Ihlenfeld Pillman - Updated May 12, 2007)
In 1873 Minna Klingbeil Ihlenfeld and Wilhelm Frederick Ihlenfeld were living at 672 Grove Street (now 1718 Fifth Street). They lived a block from the beautiful St. Stanislaus Cathedral which was built in 1866. Their house is now gone because it would have been too close to I 894.
The 1880 census listed Minna age 60 living next to Louis Klingbeil age 56 and his family at the 672 Grove Street residence. Since Klingbeil was Minna’s maiden name it is possible Louis was her brother or another relative. Also living there was Louis’s wife, Augusta, age 50, and their children. They were Otto age 16, Reinhold age 12, and Martha age 10. Louis was a tailor and Otto worked in the store. Since they were all born in Prussia their journey to America would have been after 1870. So it is likely that the Ihlenfelds tested the waters here and then wrote to the Klingbeils and recommended that they come too.
