- Dear Mendham High School Alumni:
-
- Growing up in Mendham, I am sure you remember the many adults who were
important in our community
- activities--many of these people were also veterans of Korea and WWII.
The community of Mendham is now trying
- to create a memorial honoring these citizens, as well as all veterans
who served from Mendham from the
- American Revolution through present day conflicts. The students at
Mendham are presently fundraising for
- a Veterans Memorial that will be located on Mendham High School campus.
The Veterans' Memorial will be
- located in the front of the main entrance where the flag presently
stands. Its central feature will be
- the inscribed names of the 55 Chester and Mendham citizens who have been
killed while serving our
- country from the American Revolution through Vietnam. To view these
names click on

Another important feature of this area will be a fountain
- dedicated to our late principal Julius Wargacki, whose vision helped
inspire the veterans’ memorial.
- Surrounding this landscaped memorial will be granite benches and the
foundation will consist of paver stones.
- The estimated cost of this memorial is $40,000. It will be built in the
spring of 2005.

- HOW YOU CAN HELP
- 1) Buy our book. $23 The students of Mendham High School have written a
book to serve as a fundraiser
- for our Veterans Memorial. It is a book of short stories about citizens
of Chester and Mendham who
- served in the Civil War. Students researched these individuals through a
variety of resources: Civil War
- pension records, graves, regimental histories, diaries, census records,
wills, etc. All the proceeds
- from the sale of the book are going to support the construction of the
Veterans Memorial.
- You can make a donation by buying this book at
http://www.mhsmemorial.org/Contribution.htm Buy a
- paver stone.
-
- 2) For $100 you can purchase an inscribed 4 x 8 paver stone that will be
placed in
- the foundation of the memorial. You can inscribe your name, family name,
business name or put a message on
- the stone. There will be 3 lines with room for 13 letters. Many of you
have parents and grandparents
- who served and we would like to have as many of the Mendham Veterans
(and the war they fought in)
- represented on the Paver Stones. You can donate a paver stone online at
http://www.mhsmemorial.org/Contribution.htm
- Please forward this email to other Mendham grads who might be interested
in supporting our local veterans.
- Thank you for your consideration and support.
