Messages From Friends
From: Ritger, Robert Sent: Friday, September 21, 2001 1:17 PM To: All Subject: More messages I've received a few more messages from Mendham friends and I thought I'd share them with you. First, a couple of thoughts: Thanks to Mark Hari for the photo taken near the Randolph/Morris Township line (I've attached a smaller version to this message). For those of us in the NY/NJ area the attack has left many scars. Some can see the smoke of NYC from their home or workplace. Some travel past makeshift tributes all around the state. Some like me have a train station nearby that has had cars parked in the lot since 9-11. Some have felt a direct loss of someone close. I've received a bunch of email over the past week. I've included many of them but some needed to be edited before posting - keep in touch. It has been helpful for me to hear from all of you - Bob Ritger |
From: Debra Chipman [mailto:DChipman@IIRusa.com] Sent: Tuesday, September 11, 2001 2:11 PM To: 'Ritger, Robert' Subject: RE: Tragedy - Are you OK? Hi, Bob , I'm ok, but trapped in Manhattan and cannot get to NJ as of yet. I can see the smoke from my office in Midtown it's unbelievable. My sister-in-law was in the WTC and saw the first plane hit the building next door. She got out but said it was a war zone..... Hopefully I'll get home sometime today. Cannot wait to hug the kids..... Debra |
From: Elinor & David Beatty [mailto:beatty@mediaone.net] Sent: Tuesday, September 11, 2001 2:21 PM To: Ritger, Robert Subject: Re: Tragedy - Are you OK? Dear Bob, I would appreciate any news that you get from other classmates of ours. My sister-in-law works on the 98th floor of the World Trade Center and thankfully was late to work today and was on the subway when the planes hit. I'm sure we'll all know people who are affected by this. Thanks for your email -- Ellie Beatty (Elinor Worley) |

From: Ritger, Robert To: 'Debra Chipman' Sent: 9/11/01 2:13 PM Subject: RE: Tragedy - Are you OK? Deb: Stay in touch, let me know if there is anything I can do to assist. I have a few friends that work in the WTC, I haven't heard anything about them yet. Do you have a radio to get reports on ways out of town? Some ferries might be an option to Jersey City. Parkway is open and so is the upper level GWB coming outbound from NY to NJ. Do you have kid coverage at home? I'm happy to help in any way. -Bob |

Bob, Thank you for your generous offers to help, especially with the kids. My Mom was on the case as was a neighbor and got them home from school safely. I just got home 10 minutes ago. The city was so eerie as I was trying to leave at 3:00 way too much like a movie .... and much closer to disaster than I ever want to be again. Keep me in the loop with any other feed back you get from the class. Debra |

Every morning on my way to the office I would go down the hill by the Morris County Police and Fire Fighters Academy (Randolph / Morris Township border) and see the NY skyline. On Tuesday 9-11-01 this is how it looked. Smoke still rises today. We may be 30 miles to the west, however, it is still close to home. My best wishes to all. Mark J. From: Brian O'Reilly To: Ritger, Robert Sent: 9/14/01 3:10 PM Subject: RE: Messages From Friends Bob: Great to hear from you. Your name has come up a couple of times in the recent months and I feel bad for not tracking you down. I hired a guy at the beginning of the year who is married to a girl from Mendham. Her married name is Laurie Kirdegaard. I can't remember her maiden name but her family owns a dance studio in Mendham. Bo remembers her well. All is well down here. I was in Winnipeg on Sunday and Monday. I flew into Dulles at 1 in the morning Monday/Tuesday. Who knew that those bastards were going to fly out of there a few hours later. I could not get a flight home so I rented a car and drove 635 miles home. No hardship on me as I guess I inherited the love of the road from my old man. Even if it was a hardship, nothing even remotely like what people are going through. As Elvis C says "peace, love and understanding".................. From: Saxe Family To: Ritger, Robert Sent: 9/22/01 12:03 AM Subject: Re: More message, some news, links Bob, It's Dan Saxe and all is well here. I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for including me in this email. While I don't have time AT THE MOMENT to respond properly, I did want to say I am interested in the classes 25th reunion. I am hoping to see Bill McCrossain in a few weeks when he visits his mom in Portland Maine Oct 12-17th. I'd like to include my address and phone number in case no one knows I'm still in Morris county. (I.E. reunion mailings) I have lost contact with almost everyone thru my own fault and wouldn't mind some help in rekindling those ties that bind us all. Like many,, being married and raising 2 kids is the excuse I will post, weak as it may be. Hope this finds all's well, and thank you for including me on the distribution. -Dan Saxe |

Laura told me that he's busy running for local public office, too. Hopefully Dave will call me back tonight. Apparently I have an old email address for him. -Bob |
