Photos from Labor Day in Mendham - September 7, 1998

Labor Day in Mendham is still the biggest celebration in town and is still basically the same as it ever was, at least it had that same old small town feel to it.  I didn't manage to work the whole crowd to find out just how many of our classmates happened to be there this year but below are a few shots I took of those whom I ran into...

Former Mayor Bob Mulcahy rides on the back of a white convertible.  Note the hastily scribbled magic marker sign taped to the car door - a true signature of small town parades. Mendham Village Plywood was represented by this old truck.  The sign reads, "We've been around a long long time."   Keep your eye open for Home Depot. Recent Labor Day parades have included this troupe of semi-shloshed mummers.  I don't know who they have replaced the Mendham Mops or the Mendham Blades?  I'm pretty sure Mummers come from places far from Mendham such as Philadelphia where gender confusion is fairly common. These tough guys are actually members of the MHS football team.  I judged them to be a far cry from our State Championship squad of 1976.  I do give them credit for cramming into an unwashed piece of crap car though.

Connie Mills and Sandla Capuano were found enjoying the parade and wrestling with their youngsters.  Connie's daughter was found silly-stringed to a tree only midway through the parade. Cassie Enright enjoying the festivities and  preparing to hurl a projectile at a passing float.     Pam Kouba and family checking out the rides scattered around on Abner Doubleday field.

Get your motor running....riding proud is Kurt Landis as he motors by on his latest acquisition, an antique Farmall tractor circa 1890?.  Kurt recently bought a farm over towards Long Valley and picked up this classic tractor from a local codger.  Eileen O'Brien, mother of 7 was found enjoying the midway with a couple of her kids.  Her oldest is a sophomore at MHS. A couple of Miskel sisters having a good time.  OK, neither Chris or Diane were in our class but they were standing near Steve Holenstein's old house and he was in our class, so it's OK to include this photo, right?
