Level of the Day Tips
Follow the tips below and your levels will hopefully get Level of the Day. Good luck, and be wise.
1. Effort First, always put as much time and effort as possible into your level. The more you put in, the better it will come out. You can always tell by the design of the level how much effort the creator put into it.
2. Scenery Secondly, always put some time into the scenery. Everyone loves some eye candy to spruce up a level’s appearance. Levels can be great, but look terrible, and that really deprives from the experience of the playthrough.
3. Patience I’m honestly tired of all the complaining about not getting LOTD. Some of you have accused the Editorial Staff of being unfair and biased, and not giving new, undiscovered designers a chance. This is undoubtedly false. I am disgusted that some of you complain as much as you do. Just be patient and work as hard as you can on your levels, and just quite complaining. From complaining, you’re lowering your chances of receiving LOTD because you are getting on our nerves. Patience is a virtue.
4. Advertising Yes, advertising your level in the right manner will get you a lot of more plays and attention; but don’t go overboard. To advertise effectively, request your level to be played on Live Streams, especially marcod’s Atmosphir LIVE show. You should also make a signature with a screenshot of your level and maybe even an avatar too. Remember to make a Competition and Level spotlight thread for it too.
5. Playtest Always playtest. Playtesting will help you route out all the errors in a level before you upload it, so that others will get the full experience. It also allows you to fix any exploits that may permit players to skip portions of you level.
6. Screenshots To go along with advertising, always make sure you screenshots both ingame and in your level threads are top-notch and appealing to the broadest amount of players possible.
7. Make it fun Some levels are great, but are insanely frustrating and cause players to quit. A good level can be both hard and enjoyable at the same time.
8. Originality Always try to think of new ideas, and try your best not to copy other designers. Make every puzzle fresh and new, and always fun. Everyone will love your level if it’s original; it’ll probably blow them away.
I hope all of you follow this advice and go on to be well accomplished level designers. I really hope it helps you all.
